Site-Based Mentoring

In site-based mentoring, a caring adult or high school student is matched with a child ages 5-14. The mentor is there to be that child's special friend and role model, offering attention, support and encouragement. Matches meet at the child's school or other designated site, for 30-60 minutes one day a week, during school hours or after school. The expected duration of the match is one year. But, matches are encouraged to continue from year to year.

The most important thing a mentor can do for a child is to be a friend - listen, give advice if asked, and have fun. Here are just a few of the activities that site-based matches can do together:
• Eat lunch together
• Play board games
• Talk about yourselves and your families
• Draw pictures or create crafts
• Read a book together
• Play sports outside

Big Brothers Big Sisters currently has site-based programs in the following locations:

In an effort to create a more organized World Wide Web, the W3C has created many new Web layout standards. The key focus of their effort is to provide the best possible interoperability between the different browsing programs available.

In the days of the browser wars between Netscape and Microsoft, many hacks were propagated by the competing companies. However, today these hacks have done more to hurt the Web than to help the battling companies. By downloading and installing one of the programs listed above, the Web will be one step closer to eliminating these hacks and bugs.
